Ingredients

Marie Biscuits - 20 biscuits

Butter - 1 tbsp

Cream - 1 cup

Condensed Milk - 1/2 tin

Vanilla Essence - 1/2 tsp

Powder the marie biscuits to super fine. Mix in the butter.

Whip the cream till soft peaks are formed. Add the condensed milk and vanilla essence. Continue whipping till stiff peaks are formed.

Use individual serving bowls. Layer the biscuit mixture at the bottom and press down. Now add a layer of the cream. Alternate with biscuit and cream layers till the top.

Refrigerate overnight. Keep out for 10 mins berfore serving.

ആമുഖം

ആദ്യം ഒരു സെലിബ്രിറ്റിയുടെയാവട്ടെ...........കേരളത്തിലെ ഒരു പ്രമുഖ നേതാവാണ്.......ഞാന്‍ സ്ക്‌ുളില്‍ പഠിക്കുന്ന കാലം മുതല്‍ക്കെ അദ്ദേഹം മന്ത്രിയൊക്കെയാണ്.എനിക്കു നേരിട്ട് പരിചയമില്ല, പത്രത്താളുകളില്‍ കൂടി ഉള്ള പരിചയം ആണ്. അവസാനക്കാലം പ്രയാധികത്താല്‍ ആശുപത്രികളും..... അവിടെത്തന്നെ icu തിരിച്ച് മുറിയുമായി..........കുറച്ചുകാലം അങ്ങോട്ടോ ഇങ്ങോട്ടോ.......യെന്ന മട്ടായിരുന്നു.അങ്ങനെ ഒരു ഞായര്‍ അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ പൊതുഅവധി ദിവസമോ മരിച്ചുപോയി.കുറച്ചുദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ ഞാന്‍, എന്‍റെ ക്‌ുട്ടുകാരിയുമായി വര്‍ത്തമാനം പറയുന്നതിനിടയില്‍ ഞാന്‍ ഈ നേതാവിന്റെ കാര്യം പറഞ്ഞു.school teacher യായ അവള്‍ ഉടന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.......2-3 ദിവസം ഒരവധി കിട്ടുംമെന്ന്‍ പ്രതീഷിച്ചു..... പക്ഷെ ഒരവധി ദിവസമല്ലേ മരിച്ചത്‌, അതുകൊണ്ട്ഗുണമുണ്ടായില്ല........ഒരു നിമിഷം ഞാന്‍ അന്തം വിട്ടെങ്കിലും ഒരു ജോലിക്കാരിക്കു കിട്ടുന്ന അപ്രതീക്ഷിതമായ അവധിയെ പറ്റി നമ്മുക്ക് പ്രതീഷിക്കാവുന്നതാണ !

അതുപോലെയാണ്‌, ഞങ്ങളുടെ വീടിന്‍റെ അടുത്ത്‌ വീട്ടുജോലി ചെയതിരുന്ന  ഒരു സ്ത്രീയുടെ ഭര്‍ത്താവിന്‍റെ മരണവാര്ത്ത.........ഒരവധിക്കാലത്ത് നാട്ടില്‍ ചെന്നപ്പോള്‍ ആണ്, ആ സ്ത്രീ വിധവയായ കാര്യം അറിഞ്ഞത്‌.കല്യാണത്തിനു മുന്‍പേ എനിക്ക് അവരെ അറിയാമായിരുന്നു.കല്യാണം കഴിഞ്ഞ 2 പേരും ക്‌ുടി സൈക്കിളില്‍ വരുന്നതും വൈകുന്നേരം അയാള്‍, അവര് ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്ന വീടിന്റെ പുറത്ത്‌ കാത്ത്‌ നില്‍ക്കുന്നതെല്ലാം ഞാനോര്ത്തുപോയി.ഞങ്ങള്‍ ആ കാലത്ത്‌ അവരെ കളിയാക്കുമായിരുന്നു.ആ വാര്‍ത്തയും എനിക്കു വിഷമമായി. വാര്‍ത്ത പറഞ്ഞവരോട് ഞാന്‍ പിന്നെയും എന്റെ വിഷമം പറഞ്ഞു കൊണ്ടിരുന്നപ്പോള്‍, ആ സ്ത്രീ എന്നോട്‌ പറഞ്ഞു_” അവള്‍ എത്ര ഭാഗ്യവതി!” അവള്‍ക്ക്‌ ജോലി ചെയ്യത് കിട്ടുന്ന പൈസ കൊണ്ട്, മക്കളെ വളര്‍ത്തിയാല്‍ മതിയല്ലോ.വെറുതെ ചാരായം മേടിക്കനായിട്ട് പൈസ ചിലവ് ആക്കണ്ടല്ലോ........കുടിച്ച് കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ അയാളുടെ അടിയും ചവിട്ടും വേറെ............പറഞ്ഞതെല്ലാം ശരി ആണ്‌.

ഈ കാര്യം എന്‍റെ മകന്‍റെ ക്‌ുട്ടുകാരനില്‍ നിന്നുമാണ്, 3-4 ലില്‍ പഠിക്കുബോഴാണ. പെട്ടെന്നൊരു ദിവസം അപ്പ്‌ുപ്പന്‍ മരിച്ചു.അവരെല്ലാം നാട്ടിലേക്ക്‌ പോയി.ഒരാഴ്ച കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ notes  എഴുതി എടുക്കാന്‍ വീട്ടില്‍ വന്നതാണ്............അവനാകെ ത്രില്ലടിച്ചു ആണ്.......അപ്രതീഷിതമായ വിമാനയാത്രയും നാട്ടില്‍ പുതിയ ക്‌ുട്ടുകാരെ കിട്ടിയതും വീട്ടിലെ സദ്യയുംമൊക്കെയായി........ അവന് പറഞ്ഞാലും തീരാത്ത വിശേഷങ്ങളാണ. ഞാന്‍ അപ്പ്‌ുപ്പനെ പറ്റി ക്‌ുടുതല്‍ ചോദിച്ചപ്പോള്‍, ആ കുട്ടി പറഞ്ഞു-old ആയില്ലെന്ന്‍ എല്ലാവരും പറഞ്ഞു.( ആ വേര്‍പാട്‌ അവന് വലിയ പ്രശനമില്ലാത്തതു പോലെ)

ഒരു ചെറിയ തലവേദനയോ, പനി വരുബോഴേക്കും...........google  ചെയ്ത ഏറ്റവും വലിയ അസുഖം സ്വയം കണ്ടുപിടിച്ച് ...മരണം കാത്തിരിക്കുന്ന നമ്മുടെ മരണവാര്‍ത്തയും ഇതുപോലെയൊക്കെ ആകുമോ ആര്‍ക്കെങ്കിലുംLL

Rava Idli

For Batter :

Rava - 1 cup

Sour Yogurt - 1/2 cup

Water - 1 cup

Coriander leaves - 2 tsp

Salt - to taste

For tempering:

Oil - 2 tbsp

Red Chillies - 2 broken

Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp

Urad Dal - 1 tsp

Cashewnuts - 1 tbsp

Curry Leaves - 8

Fruit Salt - 1 tsp

Roast the rava on low flame till you see brown streaks. Transfer into bowl and allow it to cool completely.

Add yogurt and mix well. Add coriander leaves. Allow it to rest for 10 mins.

Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. When they spulter, add red chilles, urad dal and cashewnuts and brown. Then add the curry leaves.

Add this tempering to the idli batter. Now add water till a idli batter like consistency is obtained. Add salt.

Grease idli moulds. Heat water in the steamer. Add fruit salt to the batter and mix well. Immediately pour into moulds and steam for 15 mins.

Cool, unmould and serve with chutney.

Birthday Party

McDonalds ന്റെ വാതില്‍ തുറന്നപ്പഴെ,കാക്ക കൂട്ടത്തില്‍ കല്ലു എറിഞ്ഞ പോലെ, കൊച്ചുകുട്ടികളുടെ ബഹളം......നോക്കിപിടിച്ചുവന്നപ്പോള്‍ ഒരു 4-5 വയസ്സുള്ള ഒരു കുട്ടിയുടെ Birthday Party ആണ്‍.......ആകുട്ടിയുടെ friends,അവരുടെ അമ്മമാര്‍, ആയമാര്‍......ഒക്കെയായി ആകെ തിരക്കാണ്‍.ഞങ്ങളും ഒരു സ്ഥലം കണ്ടുപിടിച്ചു ഇരുന്നു.കുട്ടികളുടെ ബഹളം കണ്ടിരിക്കാന്‍ രസമുണ്ട്.ഒരാള്‍ക്ക് burger വേണമെങ്കില്‍ എല്ലാവറ്ക്കും burger....... അപ്പഴേക്കും എന്തെങ്കിലും പറഞ്ഞു ഓടിപോകുന്നതു കാണാം.തിരിച്ചു വരുമ്പോഴേക്കും വേറേ ആരെങ്കിലും കുടിച്ച juice/ coke കുടിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. അതിനൊക്കെ  കണ്ണ് ഉരുട്ടാന്‍ അമ്മമാരും ആയമാരും തയ്യാറായിട്ടുണ്ട്,കൂട്ടത്തില്‍ശുദ്ധിയുടെയും ആരോഗ്യശാസ്ത്രത്തിന്‍റെയും ക്ലാസ്സും.ചില അമ്മമാരാണെങ്കില്‍ ഈ പാര്‍ട്ടിയോടെ 1-2kg തൂക്കം കൂടിപ്പിക്കാമെന്ന വാശിയിലാണ്‍, കുത്തി..കുത്തി തീറ്റിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.

അവരുടെ Birthday cake ഒരു നോട്ടുബുക്ക് പോലെയാണ്‍.അതിന്റെ side ഒരു പെന്‍സിലും sharpener യൊക്കെ വെച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.അപ്പഴാണ്‍, അവിടെയുള്ള ഒരു കുട്ടിക്ക്, പടം വരക്കാനുള്ള ഐഡിയ വന്നത്.അതിനായി ആ കുട്ടി, “ആന്റീ......ആ പെന്‍സില്, sharpen ചെയ്തു താ....ഞാന്‍ ഒരു പടം വരക്കട്ടേ........”ആന്റിയാണെങ്കില്‍,sorry, no യൊക്കെ പറയുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും, ആ കുട്ടി വിടാനുള്ള ഭാവം ഇല്ല.തരുന്നോ അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ ഞാന്‍ എടുക്കുണോ....യെന്ന മട്ടിലാണ്‍.കുട്ടി അതു എടുക്കുന്നതോടെ Butter Icing യുള്ള കേക്ക്, മിക്കവാറും കൈപ്പത്തി/വേറേ വല്ല shape ലാവും മുറിക്കാന്‍ പറ്റുക.അമ്മയുടെ മുഖത്തെ പേശികള്‍ മുറുകുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ചിരിയോടെ പറഞ്ഞു ..”പേപ്പറ് ഇല്ലല്ലോ...പിന്നെങ്ങനെ വരക്കും”....ആ കുട്ടി പേപ്പറ് തപ്പാന്‍ പോയി. കുട്ടികളുടെ ഒരു കാര്യമേ!!B’day party നടത്തിയാല്‍ പോരാ...കുട്ടികളെ manage ചെയ്യാനും അറിയണം.

ഇതിലും കഷ്ട്മാണ്‍, ഒരു ഒന്നാം വയസ്സു ആഘോഷിക്കുന്ന കുട്ടിയുടെ B’day പോയാല്‍,പലപ്പോഴും ഏങ്ങലടിച്ചു കരയുന്ന കുട്ടിയെ യായിരിക്കും കാണുക.മിക്കപ്പോഴും ന്യുക്ലിയറ് ഫാമിലിയില്‍ വളറ്ന്ന കുട്ടിക്ക്, അമ്മ, അച്ഛന്‍..........അങ്ങനെ കുറച്ചുപേരെമാത്രെമേ മുഖപരിചയമുള്ളൂ....പെട്ടെന്നൊരുദിവസം എല്ലാവരും കൂടെ വന്ന് എടുക്കലും കറക്കലുമൊക്കെമായി........ആ കുട്ടിയെ ആകെ പേടിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.......കൂട്ടത്തില്‍ ബലൂണ്‍ പൊട്ടലും പീപ്പിവിളികള്‍ വേറേ.........എന്നെ ഒന്നും ചെയ്യല്ലെയെന്നമട്ടില്‍ കരഞ്ഞ് തളറ്ന്ന, അമ്മയുടെ കൈയ്യിലിരിക്കുന്ന കുഞ്ഞ്.......കണ്ടാല്‍ വളരെ വിഷമം തോന്നും.പലപ്പോഴും ഇങ്ങനെ പാറ്ട്ടി നടത്തി ആ കുഞ്ഞിനെ കരയിപ്പിച്ചെടുക്കണോ യെന്ന് തോന്നാറുണ്ട്.

എന്റെ കുഞ്ഞുനാളില്‍ Birthdayക്ക് പായസമായിരുന്നു special item . ഇപ്പോള്‍ പായസം ഒക്കെ വീടിന്റെ അകത്തേക്ക് ഒതുങ്ങി.പകരം B’day party കളും&B’day cake കളുമായി മുന്നില്‍. b'day party എവിടെ വെച്ച്......എന്നത്‌ഒരു status symbolആയി മാറുകയാണ്‍.പലB’day party & cake  കളില്‍ പുതുമ കാണാറുണ്ട്.balloons & cakes ള്‍ കുട്ടികളുടെ പടം വെച്ചുള്ളത്.അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ഏന്തെങ്കിലും theme ഉള്‍ക്കൊണ്ടിട്ട്.....(എന്‍റെ മകന്‍ 3-4 ലില്‍ പഠിക്കുബോഴാണ, Harry Potter സിനിമ ഇറങ്ങിയത്‌ അപ്പോള്‍ ഒരമ്മ...പാര്‍ട്ടിക്ക്‌cake, മുതല്‍ അവിടത്തെ എന്തും Harry Potter ......or അതിലെ characters യോ ആയിരുന്നു.)അതുപോലെ magic show, clown& balloon കൊണ്ട് പല രൂപങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നവരെയും ഇപ്പൊള്‍ Party കളില്‍ കാണാറുണ്ട്.

Ha ha ha ...........ഇങ്ങനെയൊക്കെ ആഘോഷിച്ചിലെങ്കിലും വറ്ഷം മാറുന്നത് അനുസരിച്ച് നമ്മുടെ B’day യും വരും.........വര്‍ഷം ക്‌ുടുതോറും മെഴുകുതിരിയുടെ എണ്ണം കുറച്ച് ഞാനും cake... cut ചെയ്യാറുണ്ട്!
